Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire have maintained good diplomatic relations for several years.
In order to strengthen their relationship, a Co-production and Cinematographic Exchange Agreement was signed in Abidjan between the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) and the National Office of Cinema of Côte d’Ivoire (ONACI-CI) on November 28 2011.
This agreement allowed the birth of the Ivorian Cinema Week, an event created to allow the two countries to share experience in the field of cinema.
Morocco, which is one of the giants of the cinematographic industry on the continent, enjoys excellent know-how and many advantages which it intends to pass on to its international partners, in particular Côte d’Ivoire.
The 4th edition of the Ivorian Cinema Week took place from Sunday 18 to Saturday 24 September, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Communication and the Embassy of Côte d’Ivoire in Rabat. It is, in fact, a model partnership for the promotion of cinema on both sides.
According to Mr. Khalid Saidi, of the CCM: “Culture being an important pillar for bringing our two countries closer together, HM King Mohammed VI attaches great importance to South-South cooperation and places the interests of the continent and African citizens at the center of his concerns. And this through concrete actions for a prosperous and strong Africa. For more than 40 years, Morocco has chosen to invest in inter-African co-production, providing African filmmakers with the technical and human resources available to the CCM. In the same vein, African filmmakers are always present in Moroccan film festivals».
Organized simultaneously with the Moroccan National Film Festival, this edition is aimed at a wider audience in the sense that it should allow all Africans residing in Tangier, and more particularly Ivorian nationals who live there, to follow recent Ivorian film production.
It is also an opportunity for film professionals and actors from both countries to meet, discuss their projects and possible collaborations.
“The Night of the Kings” by Philippe Lacôte, “Until the end” and “Djagassa” by Hyacinthe Hounsou, “Le gendarme d’Abobo” by Anton Vassil, “Le ticket à tout prix” by Alain Guikou and “Samory by Abel Kouamé, are some of the films screened during this edition.
