Guinea’s armed forces are experiencing a period of renewal with a series of significant promotions. In a decree broadcast on national television, the President of the Transition, General Mamadi Doumbouya, was elevated to the prestigious rank of 5-star general. This recognition, issued by the National Council for Rally and Development (CNRD), comes alongside the promotion of sixteen other officers to the rank of general, commended for their loyalty and dedication to the nation.
An exceptional promotion for dedicated officers
Leading this promotion is General Mamadi Doumbouya, who is honored for his commitment at the helm of the armed forces. Among the other promoted officers are Major General David Haba and Major General Ibrahima Sory Bangoura. Specific distinctions were also awarded to military personnel of other ranks, highlighting the collective commitment of the armed forces to the country’s stability and security.
Rear Admiral Zézé Onivogui was promoted to the rank of Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit, a recognition that reflects the esteem the Republic of Guinea holds for him. These honors emphasize that the Guinean army remains a fundamental pillar of the nation, rewarding its members for their exceptional contribution to national unity.
Mamadi Doumbouya: personal recognition and a national legacy
As the President of the Transition, General Mamadi Doumbouya also received significant personal honors. In a decree signed on the same day, he was elevated to the dignity of Grand Cross of the National Order of the Kolatier, a tribute highlighting his role in promoting peace, social cohesion, and international cooperation. This decoration illustrates the values of bravery and responsibility that General Doumbouya has embodied since assuming office.
Furthermore, he was awarded the Croix de Guerre, honoring his acts of courage and determination in fulfilling his mission. Over 887 military members were also promoted to the rank of junior officer, consolidating the ranks and preparing a new generation of leaders for Guinea.
